Blood shortage in Birganj

With the increase in summer, shortage of blood has started in Birgunj. On Tuesday, the blood transfusion center here has barely 30 blood in stock.

According to Dhirendra Jha, a technician at the center, there is a demand of 70 to 80 cases of blood in the center every day, but the supply is often closed. "There is a high demand for blood, but the blood donation programs that supply it have decreased," he said, "only one day of the week, Saturday, is usually a blood donation program organized in Birganj, it depends on that."

Blood donation programs are also decreasing with the onset of summer. He said that in such a situation, those who come to demand blood often have to give blood only by blood donation. Jha says that even when blood is given in the admission instead, the blood of the related group is taken, so the person asking for the blood is also suffering.

Apart from that, it is the responsibility to provide blood regularly to those living in Kurua, Indian citizens, people who are ill, HIV-infected, dialysis and thalassemia patients, he said. He says that in such a situation, it is necessary to provide the blood recommended by the doctor.

Currently, the demand for B and O group blood is high in the center, he said. AB, A, A positive blood group blood is rare. Even under normal conditions, there is a trend of not showing interest in blood donation in Terai and with the increase of heat these days, the regular blood donation program is also decreasing. In such a situation, he said, it would be a lot of relief if social organizations join in the blood collection campaign.

Since there are two dozen small hospitals here, the demand for blood is high.
