The local administration has continued the curfew imposed in the tense Birgunj since Saturday. Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal has announced that the curfew issued from 6:30 p.m. on Saturday to 12:00 noon on Sunday has been extended till 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Parsa police spokesperson DSP Kishore Lamsal said that 85 people who violated the curfew throughout the day on Sunday were arrested from different places in Birgunj and they were called by their relatives in the evening and released to their relatives on the condition that they will not violate the curfew from now on. 

Curfew has been imposed only in Bypass Road, West Sirsia Bridge, North Powerhouse Chowk and South Shankaracharya Gate to the east of Birganj. In the curfew order issued on Saturday, Gandak Chowk was established in the north, but on Sunday it was reduced to Powerhouse Chowk. 

During the procession of Hanuman Jayanti, there was tension in Chhapkaiya area of ​​Birganj on Saturday. During that, Nepal Police fired 11 rounds of aerial fire and 74 rounds of tear gas. The armed police said that they fired 74 rounds of tear gas.  

DSP Lamsal informed that 41 people including Nepal Police Superintendent of Police Gautam Mishra, 16 including Armed Police DSP Devendra Bahadur Singh and 13 civilians were injured in the clash. He said that all the injured have been discharged from the hospital. 

During the clashes, one shop was completely damaged and another partially damaged in Chhapkaiya area. 4 motorcycles are completely burnt. 4 motorcycles were partially damaged. Some CCTV cameras of Safer Virganj have also been damaged.
