Pitambar Yadav, the outgoing ward president of Rupni rural municipality-1 of Saptari, who has been on the run for a year after being sentenced to prison in a corruption case, has been arrested. Friday evening he was arrested.
Saptari Police Chief Dhakendra Khatiwada informed that Yadav was arrested while going to Rupni from Rajviraj-Rupni road section. Yadav was employed as a sub-engineer in the then District Education Office, Dailekh, on the basis of fake educational certificates, on the basis of fake educational certificates.
The Abuse of Authority Investigation Commission filed a corruption case in the special court against Yadav, who got a job in contract service on the basis of fake educational certificates. In that case, on 21st January 2017, the court found him guilty of the offense of sub-section (1) of section 16 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059 and sentenced him to 6 months imprisonment and a fine of 15,000.
Yadav quit his job and contested the election while the corruption case was going on. Yadav, who was found guilty, went to the Supreme Court after being elected to the post of ward president. However, after the joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Hariprasad Phuyal and Tek Prasad Dhungana upheld the decision of the special court on February 22, 2008, Yadav was living in hiding.
