Swaviyu elections are being held on Tuesday in only one of the seven community campuses affiliated to the University in the district. Elections are being held in the only Gaurishankar campus of Nijgadh municipality.
Elections are going to be held in Gaurishankar as SWAVIU has not been formed in the remaining six campuses. There are 370 students in Gaurishankar campus alone, where Swaviyu was formed, 80 percent of them are female students .
The UML is close to the Aneraswawiyu Congress, the New Union and the All Revolutionary Organizations are close to the Maoists and are contesting the election by registering their candidature.
There is only one Ramraja Mohanvikram Shah campus in Kalaiya sub-metropolis, the district headquarters, while there are 3 campuses in Jitpur Simra sub-metropolis, Simra Campus, Bakulia Campus and Dumarwana Community Campus . Similarly, there is only one Gadhimai campus in Mahagadhimai municipality and there is only one campus in Kolhavi municipality.
In order to keep the campus away from student politics and the number of students is also low, the other six campuses in the district have not formed (registered) Swaviyu. "Swaviyu is not formed because it will be expensive to provide a room to Swaviyu and manage other expenses and the income source in the campus is low," he said.
