Effigies of MPs were burned for making statements against the mayor

An effigy of Federal Member of Parliament Amresh Kumar Singh was burnt in Gaur on Saturday for making insulting and wrong statements against Mayor Shambhu Shah of Rautahat's Gaur Municipality.

Alleging that MP Singh had made irresponsible statements against Mayor Shah in the House on Friday, supporters of Mayor Shah and municipal officials burnt the effigy at BP Chowk shouting slogans. Demonstrators carrying banners, placards and burning effigies have warned that legal action will be taken against Singh if he does not apologize immediately. "If the things I said against the Gaur municipality in the House are proved, I will retire from politics," Mayor Shah said. I challenge the allegations made by honorable Singh to be proven and shown. If not, he would have retired from politics and joined Rachi." The city's deputy chief, ward presidents, ward members and locals have demanded that MP Singh withdraw his statement and apologize to Gaur residents.

Sasad Singh wrote a Facebook status and responded that it would not matter if thousands of effigies were burnt.
