More than 56 bighas of land have been returned to the victims in the action taken against the meter-baggers in Parsa. In the same way, out of the creditors' claims of more than 56 million rupees, more than 316 million rupees have been settled, and the meter-bag victims have got relief.
According to the District Police Office, 1,303 out of 2,238 out of 575 direct complaints and 1,663 received from the District Administration Office have been resolved. Among them, 220 complaints were settled with the administration and 1 thousand 83 with the district police.
Out of the total complaints, 966 have yet to be reconciled. 13 accused including 14 men and 2 women have been arrested during investigation on the registered complaint . A case has been registered against 29 accused people. Most of the complaints are from those who have suffered from hair loss and blindfolding.
DSP Subas Bhatt, the spokesperson of the district police office, claimed that Parsa police has solved the most number of complaints compared to other districts of Madhesh province. In general, there is a tendency for the meter bankers to give someone a small amount of money and keep the bank's check for double or triple the amount as collateral.
In most of these cases, it is found that the same person is charged more than twice the amount given as a security deposit, and they even take a bank check and do injustice to an extent. In such cases, it is customary to add the interest amount to the principal and increase the interest meter.
Bhatt said that there is a problem in proceeding with the investigation process in the case of some of the complainants who have not contacted them after filing the complaint.
He says that there is a problem in returning the land that has been given to the person called the perpetrator after passing the resignation.
In the same way, he said that even in cases that have been decided by the court, when a complaint is filed, there is a legal complication that the police cannot look into it. According to him, the tendency of the perpetrators to file a writ of injunction in the court after receiving a complaint against them also creates complications in the investigation process of the complaint. The tendency to reach an agreement before the police but not maintain that agreement after both parties reach home is also causing problems, he said.
