On January 5, that is, on this day in the year 2063, Ramesh Mahato was shot dead by a Maoist activist for the first time during the Madhesh movement in Siraha's Lahan. After that, the movement spread throughout Madhesh. Since then, Madhesh-centric parties have been celebrating this day as a day of sacrifice. Vinay Azad of Kantipur had a conversation with Upendra Yadav, president of Jaspa Nepal, who is focused on this issue:
How do you remember today?
Today is the day to remember sacrifices, struggles, sacrifices and heroic sons. Today is a day to remember the path shown by the heroic sons by sacrificing themselves rather than living for the liberation of the oppressed people, to get freedom from the life of slavery. Remembering them, we have to fight for liberation, there is no alternative.
The dream of the martyrs of the Madhesh movement did not come true, there is an allegation that you started satlipsa, what do you say?
This is wrong. It is a vindictive accusation. The rulers are not digesting the fact that the Madhesi have got an opportunity. That is why people with narrow and sexist thinking and thinking have made such a wrong comment. They are the ones who will rule the country forever. We are still on the path of struggle. We are moving forward in the direction of protecting the achievements gained from the movement and unitedly fighting for the remaining rights, social justice, equality, freedom and rights.
What do you say about the front-blocking that is going on between the political parties on the Madhesh issue?
First of all, I have objection to your words. The objection is that this is not only a Madhesh issue, it is a national issue. Madhesh is a nation. There are many nationalities in this country, one of them is Madhesh. To solve the national problems, to bring justice to the oppressed people, the transformative forces must come together. Must be united. There is no alternative to struggle. Therefore, whatever efforts are being made, it is necessary to continue them and bring them to fruition.
What is your opinion about the Samajwadi Front?
I had an important role in the creation of Samajwadi Morcha. Since its manifesto, it has participated in policy making and other work. Pushpa Kamal Dahal became the prime minister through the front. However, after becoming the prime minister, he not only betrayed his allies within the front, but stabbed them in the back. Now tell me, how can there be cooperation? How to cooperate with those who use state resources to buy leaders and break the party? Jaspa Nepal cannot cooperate with Samajwadi Front in the present situation.
