Journalist Pankaj Shrestha of Virganj has received the Gopal Giri Active Journalism Award. Shrestha, the camera person of Kantipur Television, was awarded a prize of Rs 51,000 during a program at the auditorium of Nepal Journalist Federation Parsa on Tuesday.

The award has been established in the memory of Giri, former president of Parsa branch and former mayor of Birganj. 

Minister of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives of Madhesh Province, Janardan Singh Chhetri, dressed journalist Shrestha and presented him with a certificate of appreciation. In the year 2047, Giri became the President of the Journalist Federation Parsa . Giri was killed by the then Maoists on January 1, 2060 when he was the mayor of Birganj Metropolitan City.

Parsa journalists Brijlal Paswan, Shatrughan Nepal, Dhruv Sah, Pratap Shrestha, Maheshchandra Gautam, Vijay Bhandari, KC Lamichhane, Shyam Banjara, Omprakash Khanal, Kanhaiyalal Kesari and Gaya Yadav have been awarded with this award.

branch president Omprakash Khanal presided over the award distribution program under the chief hospitality of Agriculture Minister Chhetri, Central Secretary of Federation of Journalists Ashok Tiwari, Girish Giri's son Girish Giri and others were present.
