For a week, Nilgai in the southern part of Rautahat and wild elephants in the northern part have damaged the crops of the farmers.
Farmers of Inerwa in Boudhimai Municipality and Dewahi Bazar of Dewahi Gonahi have been forced to suffer when Nilgai damaged the wheat and pulses-oilseed crops planted by the farmers.
'We have already informed the local administration about this,' said Saroj Sah, a farmer of Inerva, 'We are shocked to see Nilgai causing suffering in this area every year.'
Nilgai, wild boar and other animals come and live in the kharghari by the river. The farmers of Kataharia, Debahi, Lalbakaiya, Vijaypur, Moulapur etc. have fields on the river bank. Sah said that it has been more than five years since the wild animals started causing trouble in this area. He said that wild animals are causing damage to their corn, rice, sugarcane, potato, wheat, banana, coriander and other crops.
Buniyad, Bhasedhwa, Laxminia, Gamaharia, Maryadpur, Karkachkarmaiya, Tikulia Innerwari and other villages have been eaten by wild animals, the locals said. The then Chief District Officer Govinda Prasad Rizal informed the National Park and Department after the wild animals started destroying the farmers' crops. It is said that the locals surrounded and killed the nilgai after it disturbed them by eating the crops last year.
A large number of nilgai and wild boar live under the guise of kharghari and sugarcane fields on both banks of Lalbakaia river . They come out in the afternoon and graze on the crops . The locals have started to build scaffolding near the fields and along the river to protect the crops from wild animals .
Chief District Officer Hiralal Regmi said that he is trying to understand the reality with the farmers of the village about the damage to the children's drains caused by wild animals. On the other hand, in Chandrapur municipality area, wild elephants have been damaging the crops and houses of the locals for a week.
Divisional Forest Officer Hemant Prasad Sah said that he is coordinating with the park to control the elephant. He also said that the forest has corresponded with the municipality to help with elephant repellants.
