The Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed its displeasure over the unannounced load shedding and unannounced power cuts being carried out by the Nepal Electricity Authority in the industrial establishments of Birgunj-Pathalaiya Industrial Corridor, the country's largest industrial corridor since last one month.
President of the association, Anil Agarwal, issued a statement on Sunday and said that there is a problem in the operation of industries due to lack of regular supply of electricity, which is like oxygen to industrial establishments. "Nearly 5-6 years ago, Nepalese industrialists, businessmen and common people who were excited by the slogan of 'load shedding free industrial zone' and 'bright Nepal' announced by Nepal Electricity Authority, in recent days due to increasing power cuts, lack of quality power supply, equipment and raw materials of industries are deteriorating as well as production. The process is also having a negative impact,' the release states.
"While the industries of Parsa-Bara Industrial Corridor are experiencing various problems, the industrialists are in trouble when they face the problem of power cut," said the statement, "During the power cut, the production cost has increased and the industries are losing their competitiveness. Similarly, small industries are not in a position to operate DG during power cuts, so the industry has to be shut down. Industrial feeders in the
corridor are tripping up to 14/15 times in 24 hours due to damage to industrial equipment and loss of raw materials, President Agarwal said. He said that in order to solve the problem, it is the opinion of the union that a fixed period of load shedding should be fixed and quality electricity should be supplied during the remaining time. The
association has also drawn serious attention to the relevant agencies to solve the existing complex problems and confusing situations quickly. In addition, a request has been made to the Electricity Authority to make alternative arrangements to solve the problem.
