An investigation will be conducted into the death of a woman who drowned in a ditch in the market area of Mirchaiya Municipality-5 of Siraha on Sunday. An inquiry committee was formed on Monday to investigate the death of 25-year-old local Rozinadevi Mahato.
Chief District Officer of Siraha Basudev Dahal informed that a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the death of that woman. The committee consists of Ramdev Khadka, Head of Infrastructure Office, Sirha, Chief Police Inspector Gobind Shah of Area Police Office, Golbazar, and Suresh Shah, Officer of District Administration Office, Sirha. Dahal said that the investigation committee will submit its report within 15 days from today. Rozina died by drowning at 9 am when she slipped and fell in the frozen water in a hole dug for a drain near the office of Mirchaiya municipality.
The relatives and local authorities refused to identify the body, demanding the formation of an investigation committee saying that the woman had died due to the negligence of government agencies and contractors. According to the relatives of the deceased, the municipality had dug the hole a year ago.
But Mirchaiya municipality claims that this plan is of the federal government. Mayor of Mirchaiya Municipality Shravan Kumar Yadav told Kantipur, 'This plan belongs to the federal government, the contractor there dug it, not us.' They also claimed that they did not dig the hole. Uday Choudhary, the head of the office, claimed that the hole was dug a year ago and they did not work there during that period.
The municipality is saying that we dug a hole. But we did not work there during that period," he said to Kantipur, "who dug the hole, we are also surprised."
