Six statues were unveiled in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City today. Chief of the Sub-Metropolitan City, Prashant Bista, unveiled these historic statues that had been vandalized during the Jenji movement.
The reconstructed statues of former Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, along with Ganeshman Singh, BP Koirala, founding General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal Pushpalal Shrestha, then-King Birendra Shah, and martyr Setu Bik, have been reinstalled at various locations in Nepalgunj.
At the unveiling ceremony, Mayor Bista said that the reconstruction of the statues was carried out to honor history, remember the contributions of historical figures, and make the new generation aware of history. "These are our heritage, which will keep history alive," he said.
Leaders and activists from various political parties in the district participated in the unveiling ceremony. According to the Sub-Metropolitan City, about 2.5 million rupees were spent on constructing the five statues other than that of former Prime Minister Koirala.
