A liquid oxygen plant has been put into operation at the ‘Sushil Koirala Prakhar Cancer Hospital’ in Khajura, Banke.
With the hospital’s own plant coming into operation, the hassle of having to transport oxygen by filling it in cylinders every day has been eliminated. The oxygen plant has been put into operation since Saturday, informed the hospital’s executive director Dr. Niraj Bhattarai. According to him, the plant with a capacity of 20 kiloliters has been filled with 18 kiloliters of liquid oxygen and put into operation.
The plant was installed with the coordination of the Ministry of Health and the financial support of USAID. ‘Once this plant is started, oxygen can also be stored,’ said Dr. Bhattarai said, "To facilitate the treatment of patients, a separate pharmacy has been set up in the hospital's chemo ward, and radiology and laboratory services have also been brought into operation from the same building."
According to him, a patient care home is also being put into operation soon in coordination with the Lions Club. The hospital, which was built at the grassroots level through religious rituals, was handed over to the government in 2072 BS.
Even though the federal government has taken full ownership, the hospital has been run by temporary, contract and salaried health workers as the hospital's posts have not been approved. There are currently 14 specialist doctors working in the hospital. All of them are working on contracts.
