There is a shortage of anti-snake venom medicine at Chisapani Nagar Hospital in Bardaghat, West Nawalparasi.
Even though the number of people coming to the hospital for snake bite treatment has increased, patients are forced to go to the district headquarters Parasi or outside the district due to the shortage of anti-snake venom.
According to Abhishek Chapagain, acting medical superintendent of Chisapani Hospital, there has been a shortage of anti-snake venom in the hospital for the past few days and a request has been made to the Provincial Health Services Department. 'If a patient comes in with a venomous snake bite, we have to send them back,' he said. 'Currently, the hospital has only 15 venom medicines. One patient has to be given 10 venoms.'
According to snake rescuer Durga Lamichhane, there has been an increase in snake bites and 5-10 calls are being received daily for rescue of snakes that have entered the house. On Saturday alone, 11 baby goman snakes were rescued from a single house in Bardaghat Municipality. He said that as the number of snakebite cases is increasing, there is a problem in the hospital due to the lack of anti-snake venom and the medicine should be supplied from the province immediately.
District Hospital Prithvi Chandra Hospital Parasi has a stock of 45 venom medicines, said the hospital's head Dr. Vrij Kumar Yadav. The hospital will bring more from the province as soon as the medicine is below 20 venom and said that there is no problem in treating snakebite patients for now.
