According to the quota system, 7,654.7 metric tons of chemical fertilizers have been distributed to all local levels of Banke so far in the current fiscal year 2082/83. According to Pushparaj Shrestha, the chief of Agricultural Materials Company Limited Nepalgunj, the highest amount of chemical fertilizers distributed is urea 4,819.6, DAP 2,628.450 and potash 206.650 metric tons. He informed that the company still has 356.100 urea, 105.650 DAP and 14.830 metric tons of potash. Chief Shrestha said that the highest demand for fertilizer in Banke is in Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality and the lowest is in Kohalpur Municipality and Narainapur Rural Municipality. The company says that although urea fertilizer is spread about 25 days after the completion of rice sowing, farmers are still demanding it due to concerns that they will not be able to get it back. The agricultural material company claims that there is no shortage even though it seems like a problem when farmers reach the fertilizer distribution site at once.

‘It is not the time for farmers to use urea in farming, and many places have not been planted.’ Shrestha, the head of the agricultural material company Nepalgunj, said, ‘The arrival of chemical fertilizers is continuing and will be distributed throughout the month of Shrawan.’ He said that there is still a demand for 4,000 metric tons of urea, 2,500 metric tons of DAP and a few metric tons of potash for this year’s planting season until Bhadra.

The company has stated that chemical fertilizers are being distributed through agricultural cooperatives in eight local levels of the district. The Agricultural Knowledge Center, Banke, has stated that 44 percent of planting has been done in Banke till Asad. Last year, 60 percent of planting was done during this period.

According to Sujita Sharma, Information Officer and Senior Agricultural Extension Officer of the Agricultural Knowledge Center, Banke, planting has picked up pace due to the recent rains and water from the Sikta Irrigation Project.

According to the Knowledge Center, out of the total cultivable area of 55,826 hectares in the district, paddy is cultivated on 33,780 hectares. Of the paddy cultivated, 14,863.2 hectares have been sown so far. According to the Knowledge Center, most farmers in Banke have been planting thick paddy including Radha-4 and some Indian hybrid varieties of paddy.
