Rupandehi Police have arrested a large gang that has been printing fake Nepali notes by renting a room in Butwal and taking action. The police have recovered a large quantity of fake notes of Rs 1,000 along with sophisticated equipment used to print fake notes from them.

A joint team of Lumbini Provincial Police, Rupandehi District Police and Butwal Area Police launched 'Operation Charlie' after receiving information about this and arrested the gang. DSP Krishna Kumar Chand, Information Officer of Rupandehi Police, said that six people, including an Indian citizen, have been arrested in this incident and an investigation has been initiated.

Those arrested on charges of being involved in printing fake notes are Ganga Kumari Purbachhane of Butwal Sub-metropolitan City-11, Kiran Krishna Tiwari alias Krishna of Pokhara Metropolitan City-1, Ramchandra Khatri of Changunarayan Municipality-Bhaktapur, Sanjay Tharu of Banganga Municipality-2 Kapilvastu, Pasang Tamang of Sailung Rural Municipality-4 Dolakha and Basumitra Anand of Silugudhi, Bhaktinagar Police Station, West Bengal, India.

The police have recovered a state-of-the-art photocopy machine used to print fake notes, a laptop, a fake note cutting machine, a printer, paper and plastic paper used to print fake notes, a lamination machine, chemicals used to make notes and 6 mobile phones from them. "The police have uncovered the gang through a search and investigation that began with 2 fake Rs. 1,000 notes used by a woman involved in the gang to send money to a woman they knew through QR," DSP Chand said. According to him, Gangakumari Purbachhane, who was arrested, had given two fake Rs. 1,000 notes to a woman for QR. After finding out that the notes were fake, the woman filed a complaint with the police and started their search and investigation. During the investigation, the police arrested them one after the other from different places. Among them, after the arrest of Ramchandra Khatri, it was revealed that they were printing fake notes by renting two rooms in the house of Balkumari Gharti Magar in Jitgadhi, Butwal Sub-metropolitan City-13. When the police raided the said rooms, the equipment used to print fake notes was recovered. Police have recovered 622 fake Nepali notes of Rs 1,000 denomination from different accused.
