More than a dozen passengers were injured when a passenger bus met with an accident on the Ghorahi–Gharti Gaun Martyrs' Road at Gaibisauna, Triveni Rural Municipality–7, Rolpa, at around 3:30 pm on Wednesday.
According to police, the Rapti Transport Company bus with registration number Lu2Kha 2966, which was heading from Gharti Gaun to Kathmandu, overturned on the road after its brakes failed while going downhill. District Police Chief Superintendent Panchakumar Bakhu stated that the bus driver was 26-year-old Chandrabir Pun of Madi Rural Municipality–2, Rolpa.
As soon as news of the accident was received, a five-member team including traffic police from the Nuwagaun Police Post reached the scene. The team, along with locals, rescued 13–14 people out of the approximately 22–25 passengers on board. Police stated that the injured were sent to the health post in Nuwagaun for treatment. The road, which was blocked for some time after the accident, has now been opened for one-way traffic, according to police.
Police said that detailed information about the identities and health conditions of the injured is yet to come. Further investigation is underway into the cause and damage of the accident.
