The bus park with modern facilities built at an investment of Rs 100 million in Reugha, Rolpa Municipality-2, has become unused. Although the bus park was inaugurated with great fanfare on 14 Baisakh two months ago, no buses, jeeps and other vehicles have arrived for parking since then.
A parking area, office building, toilets, ticket counters and well-maintained roads have also been constructed in the bus park.
According to the municipality, the bus park has become unused after the transport entrepreneurs refused to do so. Mayor Surendra Gharti Magar said that the bus park was inaugurated and handed over after repeated discussions with the entrepreneurs. ‘Many meetings have been held with representatives and office bearers of the four transport entrepreneurs of the district. The discussions were positive. Only then did we decide to bring the bus park into use,’ he said.
The municipality constructed the new bus park after the trend of parking vehicles indiscriminately in the district headquarters, Libang Bazaar.
Mayor Gharti Magar accused some party leaders and businessmen of spoiling the environment by raising slogans of 'localism' over the decision taken by the municipality. 'With the aim of not implementing our decision, local leaders of some parties have tried to divide and influence businessmen by raising slogans of 'localism,' Mayor Gharti Magar said.
There are two bus and two jeep transportation companies in Rolpa. Rolpa Jaljala Transportation Company has built a small parking area under the main market. Since it built a bus park with its own investment, it has been parking there. Ashish Acharya, the company's in-charge, said that they do not use the bus park built by the municipality. He also argued that the municipality should not force it.
Similarly, Aashirwad Transportation Company, which has refused to take buses to the bus park despite accepting the municipality's decision, has also been parking buses in the district headquarters. Chairman Nirmal Bishwakarma said that the Pvt. Ltd. has also planned to build a bus park in the market area with its own investment. The vehicles of the Pvt. Ltd. have been plying on some roads within the district and as far as Dang, Krishnanagar, Pokhara and Kathmandu.
Two small jeep Pvt. Ltd., Jaljala Himal and Himtal Yatayat Pvt. Ltd., which operate from the district headquarters to inner villages and in outer districts such as Dang, Butwal, Nepalgunj, have also refused to take their vehicles to the bus park. There are about 200 public vehicles throughout the district.
