Pratappur Rural Municipality of West Nawalparasi has decided to make domestic electricity tariff up to 20 units free. The municipal assembly has passed a proposal to provide free electricity to all the meters used for agricultural purposes and up to 20 units of meters used for domestic purposes.
‘The municipality has brought this scheme to be implemented from the fiscal year 2083/84, keeping in mind the poor residents of the municipality,’ said Pratappur Chairman Umesh Chandra Yadav. ‘Those who are unable to pay their electricity bills even after using minimum electricity for domestic purposes,’ he said. ‘By doing this, the municipality will be able to use all the electricity meters used for irrigation.’
While the central government has imposed VAT on electricity, the local government has come up with a relief plan. Similarly, all taxes levied by the municipality for five years will be exempted for large industries operating in the municipality.
