The post of vice-chairperson of Palhinandan Rural Municipality in West Nawalparasi has been vacant. The Election Commission issued a notice in Gorkhapatra on Tuesday and informed that vice-chairperson Fatuma Khatun Ansari has been relieved of her post.

The commission has stated that the post of vice-chairperson of the rural municipality elected by Ansari is automatically vacant based on the decision received from the elected party in accordance with the laws and regulations related to political parties.

Ansari was elected from the Nepali Congress in the 2079 BS local elections. In the last House of Representatives elections, the District Disciplinary Committee of the Nepali Congress Party had sent a letter to the Nepali Congress Center to recommend action to the Election Commission for seeking votes for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) candidate to defeat the candidate of the Nepali Congress. The Commission stated in a notice in Gorkhapatra published on Tuesday that her post was vacant as per the decision of the center.

There is a legal provision that the post of a public representative elected by any party becomes vacant after the central committee of the concerned party decides and sends it.

Meanwhile, 43 leaders and activists from Nawalparasi, including Fatuma, were recommended to the center for action. Six of them are elected people's representatives.

Other people's representatives recommended for action include Devkaran Kalwar, who is currently the Minister of Forest and Environment in Lumbini Province, Susta Rural Municipality Vice-Chairwoman Geeta Chaudhary, Ward Chairman of Bardaghat Municipality-10 Raju Mishra, Ward Member of Ward No. 9 Balindra Bikram Shahi, and Ward Member of Sunwal Municipality-2 Bikash Chhetri.

According to Congress District Secretary Umesh Chandra Yadav, all those people's representatives recommended for action are accused of openly soliciting votes for the candidates of the National Independent Party. Former Congress leaders Bikram Khanal and Narendra Gupta have been elected as members of the House of Representatives from Constituencies No. 1 and 2 of West Nawalparasi, respectively.
