The Palpa branch of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has expressed serious concern over the death threat made against Palpa journalist Bijay Baudel over a published news story. The FNJ Palpa branch has demanded that the person who threatened to kill the journalist over the news story be immediately arrested and brought to justice.

An unknown person threatened to kill journalist Baudel, who is also the treasurer of the FNJ Palpa branch, over the phone at around 11 pm last night using abusive language. After the incident, the FNJ Palpa branch has issued a press release and strongly condemned the act. The release states that in a democratic system, it is the constitutional and professional responsibility of the media to disseminate news on matters of public concern.

The FNJ believes that personally threatening a journalist when there is disagreement or complaint about the published news or video is an interference in the freedom of the press and an unacceptable act. The FNJ considers such an act as an anti-press and irresponsible step and has demanded immediate action against the culprits.

Journalist Baudel has already filed a written complaint with the District Police Office, Palpa, demanding immediate arrest of the person concerned and bringing him to justice. However, the Federation has expressed serious concern that the person who made the threat has not been arrested so far.
