Aloka, the dog who walked for 108 days in the US following the footsteps of a monk for peace, has reached Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, and has reached Kathmandu.
Today, the same dog is known worldwide as the 'Peace Dog'. This 'Indian Pariah' breed of dog is now known to the world as 'Aloka'. After walking 3,700 km in the US for peace, the dog reached Lumbini at 6:30 pm on Sunday.
When Aloka, who was the main attraction of the Walk for Peace (peace walk) in the US led by Vietnamese monk Panyakar, reached Lumbini, a crowd of monks, nuns, and devotees gathered to see and take pictures. The disciplined and peaceful Aloka had won everyone's hearts as a symbol of compassion. Aloka arrived in Kathmandu at 9:30 am on Monday morning on Buddha Air flight no. 852, in seat 18C, along with monk Panyakar.
Aloka went directly to Boudhanath from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and then visited Charumati, Anandakuti and Swayambhunath. On Monday evening, she met with Culture and Tourism Minister Khadgaraj Poudel. A grand welcome was given at the airport. Aloka is scheduled to leave for New Delhi at 8 am on Tuesday. Aloka will fly to America with monk Panyakar on Wednesday, said Bhikshu Maitri Mahasthaveer, the coordinator of the Nepal trip. 
This is Aloka's second visit to Lumbini. Earlier, Aloka had followed monk Panyakar when he was trekking in India in 2022. At that time, she had also visited Lumbini while walking with monks for about 100 days. At that time, Panyakar had walked 3,400 km on a peace walk. At the end of 2025, the dog was taken from Calcutta, India, to the US after the team including Bhikkhu Panyakar decided to start the journey from Texas. The dog was named Aloka after being taken to the US.
The last time the journey started on October 26 from the Vietnamese Huong Dao Vipassana Center in Fort Worth, Texas, USA, covered a distance of more than 3,700 km and reached Washington, DC on February 10. The monks' walk, which started in Texas, ended in Washington, DC via Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland. There were 19 monks in the team. Aloka suffered an injury during the journey in South Carolina and underwent surgery on his leg, but he did not leave the monks. Aloka the dog who participated in the journey is now the talk of the world.
