A 50-kilowatt capacity green hydrogen pilot project has been launched in the district. Butwal Power Company Limited has started the production of hydrogen at Jhimruk Hydropower Station, Darimchaur, Pyuthan.

Prakash Kumar Shrestha, the company's representative, informed that green hydrogen production has been started through the electrolysis process using renewable hydroelectric energy. Butwal Power Company has stated that the plant was established with the technical assistance of the World Bank and the financial assistance of UK International Development through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office under the United Kingdom Government.

Green hydrogen is expected to make a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions in areas where direct electrification may be difficult, including transportation, industry, fertilizer production and long-term energy storage.

While the government has planned to launch a 2.5 MW green hydrogen pilot project in Hetauda, it is also expected that the demand for hydrogen imported from India will be met by domestic production as the green hydrogen pilot project will also be operational in Pyuthan.
