Bikash Pokharel has been elected as the president of the National Independent Party (NISP) Pyuthan district convention. Pokharel won the election held in Jumri on Sunday by securing 153 votes. His nearest rival, Bam Bahadur Sunar, received only 44 votes.
Two separate panels led by current district president Pokharel and outgoing president of Mandavi Rural Municipality Sunar entered the election fray at the convention. Among the delegates, Pokharel's group was discussed as a panel close to party president Ravi Lamichhane and Sunar's group was discussed as a panel close to senior leader Balendra (Balen) Shah.
Keshav Bahadur Mahatara won the post of vice-president by securing 159 votes, while his nearest rival Dal Bahadur KC got 37 votes. Yagyabir Pandey won the post of secretary with 106 votes, while Bal Bahadur Mahatara got 81 votes. Dr. Omhari Bhattarai won the post of joint secretary by securing 119 votes, while his rival Madan Kumar Pokharel got 50 votes.
Vishal Poudel, Shankar Bhandari, Shishir Rijal and Regam Bahadur Puri from the Pokhrel panel were elected as members. Khime Sunar, Bimala Rawal Chhetri, Sita Thapa and Bipana Sunar were elected unopposed as members.
