Bivek Kumar Shrestha has been elected as the president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) from its first district convention in Banke. Shrestha, Harpal Singh KC, Binod Agrahari and Anand Babu Kafle were in the running for the district leadership. Despite efforts to reach a consensus, the election process was moved forward after it failed. According to the RSWP statute, a presidential candidate must secure 51 percent of the votes, but none of the four candidates could cross the threshold in the election held on Saturday. Shrestha was elected president on Sunday by mutual consent after a re-run was held between the two candidates who received the most votes on Saturday, Bivek Kumar Shrestha and Anand Babu Kafle. Shrestha received 85 votes, Kafle 52, Haripal Singh KC 39 and Binod Agrahari 11 votes. Similarly, Ishwori Lamichhane won the post of vice-president with 119 votes, while his rival Ram Kumar Bista received 68 votes. Shubham Kumar Gupta was elected as secretary with 100 votes. His competitor Buddhisagar Subedi received 89 votes. Farooq Gujjar was elected unopposed as joint secretary.
Similarly, Qamar Jahan was elected as caste representative member with 121 votes and Smriti Nepali was elected as Dalit member with 145 votes. His competitors Sajad Ali Jolah received 57 votes and Manoj Nepali received 37 votes respectively. Yamuna Kumari Thapa Magar was elected as open member with 149 votes, Eklal Thapa Chhetri received 138 votes and Hemraj Baral received 128 votes.
Newly elected president Shrestha said that he would work together to further strengthen the organization.
