Mangal Prasad Gupta, the outgoing member of the House of Representatives from Kapilvastu-3, has passed away. UML Central Advisory Council member Gupta, 80, died on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Delhi, India, according to UML Krishnanagar Municipality Municipal Committee Chairman Gopal Chandel.
Gupta, who underwent heart bypass surgery a year ago, had gone to Delhi three weeks ago for a 'follow-up'. A week ago, he was undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital after falling in the toilet of his residence in Delhi and was injured.
He died while being treated in a general ward after his condition normalized. Late Gupta is survived by his wife, two daughters and four sons.
He is a veteran politician of the district. Gupta, who first contested the election as the then District Panchayat President in 2039 BS and was defeated, was also defeated as a National Panchayat member in 2043 BS. He started contesting elections in 2043 BS and suffered defeat in six elections under the federal democratic system through a multi-party system.
After changing three parties, he won the seat of the House of Representatives from the fourth party, UML, in 2079 BS. Gupta, who started politics in 2024 BS, contested the parliamentary elections from the then Constituent Assembly constituency number 4 of the district from the Congress in 2048 BS, 2051 BS and 2056 BS. He contested the Constituent Assembly and parliamentary elections from Tamalopa and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum in 2070 BS and 2074 BS.
