The four old parties have united, saying that the role of the police administration is questionable even after a complaint was filed in the incident of mistreatment of people's representatives on Jestha 20. The incident of the Rastriya Swatantra Party cadres stopping and abusing women employees and teachers, including the vice-chairman of ISMA Rural Municipality, when they were returning from participating in a program to promote spiritual knowledge and preserve Vedic culture, was made public.
The police did not take action when the victim filed a complaint on Jestha 21. The police, which took action after pressure from the deputy heads/vice-chairmen of all municipalities on Jestha 22, ignored the incident. The complaint was taken but did not arrest them. Nine days later, on Thursday, after the Mahila Manch Gulmi announced a protest, they were arrested in the evening, but despite the protest throughout the next day, those arrested in the evening were released.
The accused was released after the government prosecutor's office said that they could be released on bail and the investigation could be conducted. However, after the role of the police administration in this incident was suspected, the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Nepali Communist Party and Rastriya Janamorcha issued a joint statement on Saturday.
In a statement issued by Congress District President Khildhwaj Panthi, UML District Deputy Secretary Chakrabandhu Bhusal, CPN District Coordinator Tejindra Salami Magar, and Rastriya Janamorcha representative Hari Neupane, they have requested that the Gulmi administration, which is protecting crime under the pressure of power and authority, immediately correct its steps so as to ensure good governance and the rule of law without shirk its duties. They have also warned that if legal action is not taken against the guilty, they will unite and move forward with a struggle program to correct the wrong and inhumane steps of the administration.
Congress Gulmi President Panthi says that the police administration has been questioned for ignoring the victim's complaint seeking justice. He said that he will move forward with more programs where action has not been taken against the guilty after the police administration corrects the wrong steps.
The statement also mentions that the police took the perpetrator into custody only after the women of Gulmi district formed a platform and launched a protest. When the protesting women jointly understood the ongoing work on this issue with the Chief District Officer and Superintendent of Police at the District Administration Office, they deceived the protesting women and kept them in the same office, telling them that the investigation would be conducted after the remand was extended by five days.
