The suffering of traffic jams, mud and dust in the Daunne area of the Butwal-Narayangadh road section has reduced somewhat for the past seven years. The road slope has become easier in the areas of the Daunne section, including the Bishwokarma Baba Temple and the Paisaththi turn, which are the most congested areas of the Daunne section.
Passengers who had to sit in traffic jams for 10/12 hours can now cross the 14-kilometer road of the Daunne section in half an hour at most, said Govinda Chapagain, a passenger. 'When I said Daunne, I felt like I shouldn't travel at all. Even though it was slow, the road has been built and it has become easier,' he said, 'Now, you can reach Narayangadh from Butwal in two and a half hours at most.'
More than 93 percent of the work has been completed in the Daunne area under the Butwal-Narayangadh section, which is under expansion. The project has stated that most of the 14 kilometers, where commuters are facing the most trouble and have to sit in traffic jams for hours, have been paved and blacktopped.
Although the plan is to complete the paving work in Daunne by Jestha 15, 190 meters of work remains to be done in Daunne Bazaar and Khursani Khola in the western section, said Bikash Khanal, information officer of the project's western section. The deadline for this section was extended for the fourth time after the work was not completed on time. The deadline for the eastern section has been extended to 2083 Shrawan 7 and the deadline for the western section to 2083 Shrawan 5.
This is the third extension of the project, which was supposed to be completed in 44 months, starting from Chaitra 2075. The Chinese contractor company China State Engineering Corporation had won the contract for the 114-kilometer road expansion work in two sections for 17 billion.
