Three children died in two separate incidents in Bhairahawa on Monday. Two teenage students drowned while swimming and a 14-month-old boy died after being hit by a roller. According to the District Police Office, Rupandehi, two students studying in grade 8 drowned while swimming in the dam of Ghaghra River in Mayadevi Rural Municipality-8 in Bhairahawa on Monday. The deceased are Prince Chaudhary, 13, who was a permanent resident of Khajuriya, Mayadevi Rural Municipality-6, Rupandehi, and currently lives in Gallamandi, Siddharthanagar Municipality-6, and Suraj Gupta, 16, who was a permanent resident of Asuraina, Sammarimai Rural Municipality-6, Rupandehi, and currently lives in a rented room in Sugar Mill, Siddharthanagar-4.

Gupta is a student of class 8 at Sai Global Secondary School in Bhairahawa and Chaudhary is a student of class 8 at Leelaram Secondary School in Bhairahawa, said District Police Office Rupandehi Information Officer Dinesh Kunwar.

Upon receiving information about their drowning, the police reached the spot to rescue them and found them dead. The police recovered the bodies of both of them while they were still drowning. Postmortems of both of them have been conducted at Bhim Hospital Bhairahawa. Similarly, a 14-month-old minor died after being crushed by a mini roller inside the Siddhartha Stadium in Siddharthanagar Municipality on Monday evening.

Ayush Budha, a 14-month-old son of Namu Budha, a resident of Patarasi Rural Municipality-7 in Jumla and currently residing in Rupandehi, died after being crushed while playing on a mini roller while the key was left open inside the stadium. Namu Budha is a laborer working in the same stadium.

Namu Budha's 4-year-old son Ashish Budha suddenly turned the handle of the roller while playing, and when the roller with the key turned off was moving, his 14-month-old brother Ayush got crushed by the roller. Ayush, who suffered a serious head injury due to the crush, died at Bhim Hospital.

Kunwar said that the roller driver, 65-year-old Jang Bahadur Thapa of Siddharthnagar Municipality-1 Belhiya, has been taken into custody on the charge of carelessly leaving the roller's key turned off and further investigation is underway.
