The protest was held in protest against the government's use of bulldozers to evict and evict poor squatters and illegal settlers without alternative, said the coordinator of the struggle, Poudel. "After the government hastily used bulldozers in settlements without planning for long-term management, nearly 5 million citizens from more than 1.2 million families across the country have been displaced," he said. "Now we are forming a front of unorganized settlers across the country from Butwal." He said that a national front would be announced from Butwal on Monday.

Landless and squatter residents had also demonstrated in Butwal on April 24, demanding that they not be displaced without an alternative.
