Chhabilal KC of Tinau Rural Municipality-2, Hariyali Village, travels to Dobhan and Butwal daily. But he feels bored when he thinks of Banchare Hills. It gets muddy when it rains. It is not even possible to drive a motorcycle or jeep due to the flooding. ‘The road that is always used for walking is not suitable for even six months a year,’ he said. ‘The road has been inundated for years, but no solution has been found for it.’
Maya Thapa of Tinau Rural Municipality-2, Hapur travels to Butwal twice a week. But she prefers to cross the suspension bridge and go towards Khursane rather than taking a vehicle. Because when going by jeep, one has to get lost in Banchare Hills. ‘Even when it rains a little, it gets muddy,’ she said. ‘The jeep cannot move forward.’ The road has always been a source of concern due to the landslides. This time, the road has been closed for about two weeks due to the winter rains.
The problem of the road in Banchare Hills of Tinau Rural Municipality-2, Dobhan has been going on for five years. But since a permanent solution has not been found, residents of more than a dozen settlements have had to suffer for six months a year. Recently, locals have been demanding a concrete bridge to be built at Banchare Ghat on Dobhan River (Kachal). Even though the road in Banchare Hills has been eroding for years, the local Tinau Rural Municipality has not paid attention to it.
Soil has been sold from here in the current fiscal year. Since it is a Chure area, the landslides have not stopped. Sherjung Thapa of Tinau Rural Municipality-2, Σyalangla said that there is a problem of road subsidence and mudslides here even during light rain, ‘But it is necessary to find a permanent solution to this.’ He said that the road has been subsiding for many years on the Banchare hill between Jamune and Jyangla. There is a problem of landslides in places. The road has subsided in an area of about a hundred meters on the Banchare hill.
After the road subsides, bus and jeep services in this area are closed. ‘If it rains in Jestha, vehicles cannot ply on this road until Asoj,’ he said, ‘The road subsidence has not stopped because the Dobhan river is eroding in the lower part. We have been suffering every year due to lack of initiatives to find a permanent solution for that.’ According to him, if a concrete bridge is built on the Banchareghat Dobhan river, vehicles can be taken to the settlement by overcoming this landslide.
‘A permanent solution for this road that serves more than a dozen villages is a concrete bridge,’ said Bhakta Bahadur Thapa of Jyangla, ‘for that, initiatives are needed from all sectors.’ He said that due to landslides and road collapses every year, residents of Jyangla, Bagaha, Paltange, Khulkhule, Bhutaha, Hariyali Gaun, Hapur, Mahapur and Hariyali Gaun, Beore, Toribari, etc. are forced to walk for hours.
Locals have also complained that work has been done elsewhere instead of working on Banchare Hills from the budget allocated here. He said that due to the lack of vehicles, they have to walk for one to three hours. According to locals, in some places, it is not possible to walk even on foot due to landslides and road collapse. Only after crossing the suspension bridge from the village to the village across the river can you go to the ward and rural municipality offices in small and large vehicles. The market for the residents here is Butwal.
Daily produce, including food, has to be carried to the village. This road connects Dobhan on the Siddhartha Highway via Jyangla-Hariyali Village to Tamnagar on the Mahendra Highway. Even though the Tamnagar track has been opened via Hariyali Village, there is a problem due to the lack of upgrading. You can go to Arghakhanchi via Kachal via this road.
