A protest has been held in Susta, West Nawalparasi, against the government's oppression of landless, squatters and unorganized settlers.
The landless squatters protested in Susta Rural Municipality-1 Rupauliya, organized by the Joint Struggle Committee, Nawalparasi. The participants shouted slogans such as 'Stop the demolition of the houses of landless, squatters and unorganized settlers without any alternative' and 'Ensure the rights of squatters to land'.
Chudamani Bhandari, District Coordinator of the Landless Squatters and Unorganized Settlement Concerns Struggle Committee, said that the rally turned into a corner meeting after demonstrations were held at various places in Susta. The participants expressed anger over the state's oppression and eviction of citizens who have been living for about 5 decades and have become homeless after their land was washed away by floods.
Landless squatters and unorganized settlers in various parts of the district are at risk of being demolished by the government, demanding that the state make proper arrangements.
