A giant Hanuman statue built in Chandrauta on the East-West Highway has been unveiled. The statue, built at the Balapur turn, was unveiled on Wednesday by Lumbini Province Urban Development and Drinking Water Minister Saroj Thapa after performing a religious ceremony.
A 30-foot-tall Hanuman statue has been constructed at the location in Shivraj Municipality-5. Most of the statue has been made using fiber.
The base construction was completed in the fiscal year 081/82 by the Lumbini Province Tourism Division Office, Bhairahawa at a cost of Rs. 1.5 million. The statue was constructed by Deurali Construction Service at a cost of Rs. 3.523 million excluding VAT in the current fiscal year.
Minister Thapa said that the statue was installed with the aim of making Chandrauta an important religious and tourist destination along with building a beautiful city. He said that promoting religious tourism would also help local economic activities.
Shivraj Municipality Chief Ajay Thapa said that the statue, built with the support of the provincial government for the development of religious and tourist sites, will help in the plan to build the Ramayana circuit put forward by Shivraj Municipality. Meanwhile, with the installation of the statue of Hanuman at Balapur Mode, the name of the chowk has also been changed to Hanuman Chowk. Engineer Reshouraj Acharya of the Tourism Division Office, Rupandehi, said that the area will be further beautified next year and made a tourist destination.
