Although most of the road from Nandani Mill to Gulariya has been expanded to four lanes, the approximately two-kilometer road from Dhambojhi Chowk in Nepalgunj to Nandani Mill was limited to two lanes, making it narrow and in disarray.

The plan to expand the road from Dhamboji Chowk to Nandani Mill, which is a busy and main road section of Nepalgunj, has started gaining momentum again. The Nepalgunj-Gulariya section of the Postal Highway is to be expanded to four lanes.

The section had been a problem for a long time due to unorganized structure and indiscriminate parking. Now, the two-kilometer road is going to change its appearance.

The Postal Road Planning Office, Nepalgunj, has increased its activity to upgrade the 1,900-meter-long road section of the Postal Highway to four lanes.

Although most of the section from Nandani Mill to Gulariya has been expanded to four lanes, the approximately two-kilometer road from Dhamboji Chowk to Nandani Mill in Nepalgunj was limited to two lanes, making it narrow and chaotic.

The Postal Road Planning Office has reached a four-point written agreement with the mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City and the ward chairmen of the concerned area for the road expansion. As per the agreement, a total of 30 meters of ‘right of way’ will be cleared, 15 meters each on the right and left from the center of the road.

For this, the office has published a notice in Gorkhapatra and is conducting daily morning and evening miking activities requesting the locals to clear the road boundary. According to technical data, 159 houses and huts have been seen to fall within the road boundary when this road section is expanded.  This time, areas like the compound wall of Nepal Rastra Bank have also come under the scope of road expansion.

Chief Engineer of Postal Road Planning Lila Bahadur Bhandari said that in the past, when the road was expanded by demolishing only 10 meters, the full standards could not be maintained and now an additional five meters have to be demolished again.  According to him, preventing encroachment on the road boundary and keeping it safe is the responsibility of both the government agencies and local citizens.

‘First, the locals demolished only 10 meters, we also said only 10 meters . If 15 meters had been demolished from the center of the road to the right and left when the road was first widened, there would not have been double the cost,’ he said, ‘Now, we have to demolish another five meters. Therefore, preventing encroachment on the road boundary and not encroaching is beneficial for both parties.’

Nepalgunj-1 Ward Chairman Pramoj Rijal said that the road from Dhambojhi to Nandani Mill is narrow and there are potholes in places, which is a risk of accidents, and now the risk will be reduced .
