Dilu Magar of Devisthan, Rampur Municipality-4 has been using vermicompost fertilizer prepared from gadaula for 6 years. Initially, he used gadaula fertilizer for plant production, but in recent years he has been using it for vegetable production. ‘Plant and vegetable production has increased after using gadaula fertilizer,’ he said. ‘A tomato plant that used to yield four/five kilos has yielded up to 7/8 kilos of fruit after using gadaula fertilizer.’ He said that the problem of mold or disease in plants and vegetables has also reduced.

Dil Bahadur Thapa of Kajipauwa, Tansen Municipality-7, said that it is good to use gadaula fertilizer for plant production. He has been using gadaula fertilizer for three/four years and said that it is very good for plant production. ‘I found this fertilizer to be much better for plant growth than for vegetable production,’ he said. ‘The plants grow better and the plants that are moved to other places later have less disease.’ That's why it seems beneficial.' He said that using worm manure is better for plants than using cow manure directly. Since this manure is processed, it has helped plants grow. According to farmers, Kutu Krishi Farm located in Dharampani, Tansen Municipality-5 has started producing worm manure.

The manure produced by the farm is taken by Tansen's Agrovet. Some farmers have started buying it from the farm. Farmers from Rampur and Ribdikot have been buying it from the farm. Agricultural expert Sagar Karki said that worm manure helps increase the living microorganisms in the soil. According to him, the attraction of worm manure has increased because it contains 16 elements that plants can get. In recent times, the use of chemical fertilizers has reduced the production capacity of the soil. Bhagwati Poudel Ghimire, the director of the firm, said that she has prepared fertilizer by cultivating commercial earthworms to restore fertility.

Ghimire has built more than 15 pits to raise earthworms. Apart from the pits, fertilizer is also produced separately. She said that she started raising earthworms by bringing 20 kg from Kapilvastu at Rs 1,500 per kg six years ago. She said that with the help of her husband Subin, she raises earthworms and prepares fertilizer from them. Currently, earthworm fertilizer has been prepared in more than a dozen pits. She plans to prepare fertilizer using earthworms in more pits within a few months. ‘We have now packaged it and sent it to the market,’ she said, ‘I have planned to prepare its fertilizer later.’

The business, which was started with a small investment, has now generated good income. Starting with 20 kg of vermicompost, the farm has now grown to 300 kg. 30 quintals of organic vermicompost are produced monthly. Some farmers and organizations come to their homes to purchase vermicompost and manure. She said that she rears cattle and buffaloes at home and uses the manure to prepare vermicompost.

Up to 150 kg of vermicompost can be produced in one pit in a month. Vermicompost can be prepared from apples, cow and buffalo dung, jute sacks, discarded paper, and even rotten vegetables thrown around the house. But so far, Ghimire said that vermicompost has been prepared only from cow and buffalo dung. She said that there is no need for separate food and care for vermicompost. She said that now she can sell up to 50 kg of vermicompost per month.

Agricultural expert Karki said that worm manure is three times more fertile than chemical fertilizers and manure directly applied from cow dung. He said that it will help in keeping it in rice, corn, vegetables, and horticultural fields. It will increase production and productivity by increasing the living microorganisms in the soil.

In the past, the Agricultural Knowledge Center spent more than 5 lakh rupees every year for the production of worm manure, but last year it did not allocate budget for it. According to the Agricultural Knowledge Center, there is no budget for worm manure last year. Worm manure is a mixture of rotted compost manure extracted from it as a fertilizer by feeding it organic matter. Expert Karki said that if it is followed systematically, good organic fertilizer can be prepared from it. ‘There is no market shortage for this fertilizer,’ he said, ‘Farmers who use it once look for the same fertilizer next time.’

The food eaten by earthworms does not remain in the digestive tract for long. Only 5-10 parts of the food eaten are used for body use. The rest is excreted outside the body. He said that the granular manure that is digested and thrown out as a dish is called compost manure or earthworm manure prepared from earthworms.

It is easier to raise earthworms on land with a sloping floor and plastered. He said that it would be easier to make a slight slope and place a 1-2 inch pipe on the lower part. He said that it would be better if there was a shade of straw, straw or plastic to protect the sun from above. Expert Karki said that it should be made in a way that does not allow heat to penetrate from the roof or that the sunlight does not heat the bottom. It is better to use cow dung that has been composted for 15 to 20 days before placing the termites. Karki said that it is best to place a layer of grass, straw or straw at the bottom and then place a layer of cow dung on top. ‘It does not require much effort,’ he said, ‘you can also produce the termite manure you need yourself.’
