Folk artists have held a music festival in Thabang. The Nepal Academy of Music and Drama organized the Progressive Music Festival in Thabang, Rolpa on April 19 and 20.
A seminar on ‘Progressive Music in Nepali Society’ was organized on the first day of the two-day program. Kushma Mahara, then member-secretary of the Academy, said that attention should be paid to the preservation of democratic songs and music and that the academy had put forward this plan.
The program was organized with the main slogan ‘Progressive melodies, for the new generation’. Inaugurating the event, Lumbini Province Speaker Tula Ram Gharti Magar mentioned that progressive art, culture, literature and music have made a significant contribution to the radical change in Nepali politics. ‘People’s attraction towards songs and music has increased since the beginning.’ It is still necessary to protect progressive music,' he said.
The artist commented that democratic culture is disappearing due to less interest in ideas, politics and philosophy. They believe that although it was initially full of democratic ideas, the changed behavior of the leaders who eventually came to power has shown ideological deviation.
It is also noted that progressive cultural workers are now affected by wrong behavior. Bhim Kumakhi, President of the People's Cultural Federation, and Jeevan Rokamagar, President of the Rolpa Art Foundation, presented a working paper on democratic culture. Meanwhile, Lumbini Province Speaker Gharti Magar, who was the chief guest, launched the ghazal collection 'Safar' written by Dilip Budha Magar (DB Swed), a resident of Rolpa Parivartan.

The program, which was organized by the Nepal Music and Drama Academy and attended by renowned and progressive artists from all over the country, was co-organized by the Rolpa Kala Sahitya Pratishthan.
The program was sponsored by the Thabang Rural Municipality. The locals, who were packed in the multi-purpose assembly hall in Thabang, happily listened to the musical performances of the people's artists, just like during the armed conflict of the time.
