The bodies of 20 pilgrims who lost their lives in a jeep accident near the religious site of Jaljala in Rolpa on Thursday afternoon have been collected. The jeep (Lu 1 Ja 4176) in which the pilgrims were travelling from Rukum East to perform puja on the day of Baisakh Purnima met with an accident. Only one person survived. According to the police, the work of collecting the bodies of the deceased began on Friday morning. The jeep fell about 800 meters down from the Salya forest on the border of No. 1 and 4 of Thabang Rural Municipality in Rolpa. As the bodies could not be collected till Thursday night, the police, Nepal Army and Armed Police Force along with locals have been deployed since Friday morning.

Rolpa Assistant Chief District Officer Ghanshyam Gautam, who reached the spot, said that half of all the 20 bodies had been brought to the road by 11 am. He said that they would be identified after collecting all the bodies. According to initial information, the police said that the deceased included 4 children, 12 women and 4 men. Some of them may be from the same family, said Rolpa Police Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police Birendra Bir Bishwakarma, who reached the scene. 

It was difficult to immediately rescue the accident victims due to heavy rain in Rolpa since Thursday afternoon. A team including Assistant Chief District Officer Ghanshyam Gautam, Police Chief Pranav Bishwakarma, Armed Police Chief Pranav Dipendra Pandey and Nepal Army officers who reached Thabang on Thursday started the rescue operation in the morning. According to the police, the bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their families after they are collected and identified.
