Sandesh Budha Magar of Rolpa, who is studying by writing with the help of his feet despite not being able to move both hands, has now got the opportunity to study in Kathmandu.
His educational journey has taken a new turn after his struggle was published in Kantipur. After the news titled 'Sandesh writing and passing exams with his feet' was published in Kantipur on Chaitra 11, Shivam Cement Limited took over his entire studies up to the secondary level.
Shivam Cement's Marketing Deputy General Manager Keshav Aryal had arranged for Sandesh to come to Rolpa and take him to Kathmandu. According to him, efforts will also be made for Sandesh's treatment. Aryal said that they will meet a specialist doctor and consult about Sandesh's health condition.
The company took this initiative as part of its social responsibility after learning from the news that 12-year-old Sandesh, a resident of Dhangsi, Rolpa Municipality-10, was financially weak and there was a lack of disability-friendly schools for further studies. Despite being born with a disability, Sandesh had passed grade 5 from the local Dhabang Primary School by writing with his feet.
Shivam Cement has coordinated with Khagendra Navajivan Special Education Secondary School in Jorpati, Kathmandu to continue Sandesh's studies up to the secondary level. The company will provide the half-yearly expenses for Sandesh's accommodation, care and education to the Navajivan Center for the Disabled. Principal Jayansingh Budha Magar expressed happiness that the disabled students have the opportunity to study further and receive treatment.
'In line with our goal of supporting the development of every section of society, we are proud to provide quality education opportunities to children with special abilities,' the company said in a statement. 'Education is the foundation of a strong future and it is our duty to encourage talented children like Sandesh.' Shivam Cement representatives went to Sandesh's home to pick him up and also studied his poor financial situation.
Initially, Sandesh's heartbreaking video was shot by local teacher Khim Budha Magar. Soon after, news about him was made public by various media outlets including Kantipur. The attention of Nepalis and charitable organizations around the world was also drawn to him. Journalists, intellectuals, and social workers were constantly taking initiatives to support him. Due to the impact of the news, a talented child can now study in a well-organized environment in Kathmandu, which has brought joy to the family and locals. Sandesh's father Ramu said that now his disabled son will be able to study, receive treatment, and receive proper care.
Earlier, the scene of Sandesh filling in the answer sheet with the help of his toes had made many emotional. It is believed that this support from Shivam Cement will bring great relief to his struggling life and his dream of becoming something in the future will come true.
