A secondary school here has started operating a school bus by collecting cash. Satyawati Secondary School in Satyawati Rural Municipality-5, Hansra, has started operating a school bus from this academic session.
Principal Krishna Prasad Bhandari said that the school bus was started by collecting money from alumni, teachers and parents. Students from Ullikhola to Sahaghat via Khaireni Bazaar will directly benefit from the school bus.
120 students will benefit from the school bus, which was put into operation after realizing the needs of parents and students.
The school management committee, teacher-parents' association, teachers and alumni have supported the operation of the bus, which was purchased for a total of Rs 2 million. However, Principal Bhandari said that only Rs 6 million has been collected so far.
He said that the money is being deposited in the student welfare fund. Satyawati Rural Municipality Chairman Tikaram Pandey inaugurated the school bus on Monday. He said that the local community has come together to operate the school bus and has assured that they will support it even if it is a little in the upcoming budget.
The school had 527 students last year, and it is estimated that it will reach 550 students now. The school is operating from nursery to grade 12.
The school management committee chairman Lil Bahadur Chhetri said that the school bus was brought into operation because the service area of the school is large and there has been a demand for it for the past two years. He said that since the school is located in the center of the rural municipality, the service area is large and there is a demand for school buses. He said that he got involved in operating the school bus himself after the Indian Embassy failed to bring the bus despite the initiative.
