Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya has said that the provincial government is committed to preserving archaeological heritage. During a monitoring visit to the Tharu Raja Dangisharan Durbar area in Sukaurakot, Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City-11 on Monday, Chief Minister Acharya said that it is necessary to preserve these heritages and hand them over to future generations.
Acharya informed that the provincial government has moved forward with a plan to protect archaeological heritages, promote them and link them with tourism. He assured that the Dangisharan Durbar area will be developed as an important tourist center through the development of necessary infrastructure, adoption of scientific measures for conservation and publicity.
The monitoring was attended by Chief Minister Acharya, former Chief Minister Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary, Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Bhumishwor Dhakal, Minister for Industry, Tourism and Transport Prachanda Bikram Neupane, Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City Mayor Tikaram Khadka, and others.
The monitoring team had taken on-site information about the current condition of the palace area, the progress of the excavations and the necessary aspects of conservation. Some time ago, the Department of Archaeology had found important archaeological materials during the excavations in this area. The materials found during the excavations were made public at the initiative of the Tharu King Dangisharan Sukaura Palace Civilization Fund Committee.
The excavations have found materials ranging from bricks from the Lichchhavi period to clay horse figurines worshipped by the Tharu community, bangles worn by women, bow arrows, iron and copper rings, clay lamps, and ghats.
The palace area had been excavated earlier in 2063 and 2071 BS, and the third phase of excavations has now been completed. Local stakeholders have been demanding that this area be developed as a historical and cultural tourist destination.
