Twelve houses have been burnt in a fire in Pratappur Rural Municipality-5 of West Nawalparasi.

The fire that broke out in the thatched house of local Govinda Chamar has burnt down 11 houses in the neighbourhood, said DSP Birdutt Pant of the District Police Office West Nawalparasi. Local residents, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force extinguished the fire.

The houses of locals Ram Singh Kurmi, Ram Bahadur Kurmi, Umesh Kurmi, Nagina Harijan, Bhutel Harijan, Santosh Harijan, Kashilal Chamar, Shivsharan Kurmi, Sadiq Miyan, Kiman Kurmi and Anush Kurmi have been burnt in the fire.

The houses, clothes, food and other belongings have been damaged. According to the police, the initial estimate is more than 5 million rupees in damage. Three goats have died in the fire.

The house of Govinda Chamar was cleaned in the morning and the garbage was burnt. It is understood that they had gone to work after burning the garbage and the fire was caused by the wind in the afternoon. The family that caught fire is staying in the houses of relatives and villagers.

Similarly, a fire broke out in the Rituvarna Community Forest in Bardaghat Municipality-2, Ambas on Tuesday. Due to the intense heat and wind, the fire spread to the Mauri Restaurant and Lodge located near the forest, causing minor damage.

As the fire brigade could not reach the place due to the high and steep terrain, locals and security personnel brought the fire under control.
