A traditional food festival has begun in Dangisharan Rural Municipality-3, Chakhaura with the main slogan 'Ghumgham, traditional taste and music'.

Shanta Chaudhary, Vice President of the Tharu Cultural Conservation Center, informed that various dishes of Tharu, Magar, Gurung and Newari communities will be displayed in the festival, which will run until April 6. She said that the festival was organized to preserve traditional food, costumes and culture that are becoming endangered.

Tulsipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Vinil KC, while inaugurating the festival on Friday, pointed out the 'need to develop traditional food that is disappearing commercially'. He stressed the need to link traditional dishes with tourism and business.

Stating that the Newar community in Kathmandu has started the protection and promotion of traditional dishes, he said that it is positive that such a campaign is now expanding outside the capital. Stressing the need to continue such festivals, he expressed the view that linking traditional food with employment and the economy would help in its preservation.

Krishna Bahadur Bista, Senior Officer of the Tourism Division Office, Banke, said that the aim of the festival is to provide domestic and foreign tourists with a taste of pure traditional dishes. He informed that the aim is to preserve and promote traditional food that has been passed down from ancestors, especially Tharu traditional dishes.

The festival will showcase and sell original dishes of the Tharu community, and traditional dances, songs and cultural programs of various communities will also be presented.
