Bhairahawa-The agricultural market in Bhairahawa, which has been operating in an unorganized manner in an open space for years, has been shifted to a state-of-the-art community agriculture building from Thursday.
With the relocation of the market, the five-storey 'A Block' community agriculture building of Siddharthanagar Municipality, which had been lying idle for years due to its inability to come into operation, has also come into use.
Two weeks ago, the executive meeting of Siddharthanagar Municipality decided to relocate the market from Baisakh 3 and invited the businessmen of the market to submit applications by Baisakh 2.
Chief Administrative Officer of Siddharthanagar Municipality Janak Thapa said that the market has been relocated and managed in accordance with the purpose for which the community agriculture building was constructed.
‘After the application for relocation was invited, the businessmen suddenly appeared excited,’ said Thapa, ‘In the first phase, we have prioritized the transfer of agricultural products and gradually other products available in the market will also be transferred.’
According to Thapa, more than 300 businessmen had applied to operate their businesses in the Agricultural Community Building.
Apart from agricultural products, the municipality also plans to transfer businesses such as fish and meat, electronic goods, footwear, agricultural tools, clothing businesses, and carts available in the market to the B Block building of the currently under construction Agricultural Community Building.
With the aim of transferring the scattered agricultural products to the market from one place, the municipality had constructed the A Block Agricultural Community Building at a cost of Rs. 111.7 million.
However, after the businessmen refused to move, the building remained unused even after four years of its inauguration.
For years, the Bhairahawa market, which takes place in front of the Land Revenue Office for two days on Sundays and Thursdays, used to block road traffic.
Janardan Murau of Siddharthnagar-10 Dogahari, who has been trading agricultural produce in the market for the past 25 years, is very happy to be able to do business in the community building. ‘When doing business in the open, there was no place to get shelter during the rain and we had to do business by pouring stagnant water,’ said Murau. ‘Even if we had to go to the toilet, the same problem would arise.’
Siddharthnagar Municipality has stated that those doing business in the community agricultural building will not be charged any fee until Asad and then the businessmen will get maximum concessions.’
