The National Statistics Office has been conducting a survey to find out the number of unemployed. The field work of the 'Nepal Labor Force Survey' has started on Falgun 28, 2082.

The data collection process has progressed and its main objective is to measure the actual situation of employment and unemployment in the country, said Manohar Ghimire, Director of the Social Statistics Division of the Statistics Office. He said, 'The main objective is to find out what the unemployment situation is,' he said, 'The Nepal Labor Force Survey (4th) has been being conducted since Falgun. This survey will run throughout the year from the end of Falgun 2082 to the middle of Falgun 2083.'

Ghimire, who is currently working in the field to collect data, said that data will be collected through the survey throughout the year to eliminate the impact of seasonal effects on employment.

According to the Statistics Office, this survey is the fourth time the Nepal Labor Force Survey has been launched. The first time was in the fiscal year 2055/56. Similarly, the second time was in the fiscal year 2064/65 and the third time was in the fiscal year 2074/75.

According to the Nepal Labor Force Survey of 2074/75, the unemployment rate in Nepal was 11.4 percent. Similarly, according to the results of the Nepal Living Standards Survey conducted in 2079/80, the unemployment rate in the country is 12.6 percent. The Sixteenth Plan has set a target of reducing the unemployment rate to 5 percent by the end of the plan in 2085/86.

Ghimire said that this survey will be very useful in providing accurate information about the employment situation in the country. Ghimire said that the results obtained from this will be useful to all, including the three levels of government, scholars, researchers.

The office stated that in the fourth labor force survey, a sample was selected to obtain labor-related indicators in 15 analytical areas, including rural and urban areas of seven provinces and the urban area of the Kathmandu Valley. For the survey, 20 households will be selected from 920 primary units and a total of 18,400 households will be directly interviewed. The office has stated that data will be collected only in the selected areas.

The survey, which began on Falgun 28, will be conducted until mid-Falgun 2083. During this period, labor, employment and other social and demographic details of the selected households and household members across the country will be collected.

Ghimire said that the aim is to publish the survey results in Bhadra 2084 after analyzing the collected data.

In this regard, personal details of households eating together in the same mess in institutional houses such as barracks and hostels, households within foreign diplomatic missions, and refugee camps will be kept confidential, Ghimire said.

This is a type of household survey conducted by the National Statistics Office with the aim of updating Nepal's labor statistics. The survey will provide important labor data such as employment, unemployment, unemployment rate, underemployment, underutilization of labor, child labor, and forced labor for the reference period.

Stating that it is everyone's duty to cooperate with the staff deployed by the National Statistics Office to collect data for the Nepal Labor Force Survey, the office has also requested all individuals, organizations, and communities to make the survey a success.
