In the seventh meeting of the seventh session of the Lumbini Provincial Assembly held on Tuesday, Provincial Assembly members drew the government's attention to contemporary political, economic and social issues.

Provincial Assembly member Arjun Kumar KC opposed the extrajudicial arrests being carried out based on the Karki Commission report. Stating that it is biased to arrest high-ranking officials in a film-style manner without prosecution, he urged the government to work according to the law and procedure.

Provincial Assembly member Dil Kumari Budha complained that many development projects in Rukum East were stalled. Stating that the construction of school buildings under the Social Development Division has been stopped and despite repeated initiatives in the ministry, no budget allocation has been made, she expressed the view that there is a need to change the working style.

Provincial Assembly member Bhandari Lal Ahir commented that the budget seems to have deceived the people. He suggested correcting the shortcomings in the budget and removing non-performing employees.

Provincial Assembly member Sanju Kumari Chaudhary said that stability, corruption control, financial discipline and professionalism in agriculture are necessary in the country. She stressed on ensuring access to health and the right of citizens to live with self-respect.

Provincial Assembly member Tara Thapa drew the government's attention to take action in the incident where a young man was beaten to death in Rapti-4, Dang. She also said that the government should pay attention to the rehabilitation of those displaced by floods and landslides.

Provincial Assembly member Ambika Kafle demanded that the Lal Commission report be made public immediately. Expressing concern over the country's increasing debt, she said that additional foreign debt would weaken the economic situation. She said that the government has the responsibility to create jobs for the youth in the country.

Provincial Assembly member Nawaraj Lamichhane drew the federal government's attention to the incident where a young man died after being shot by police in Kapilvastu.

Provincial Assembly member Sushila Badi drew serious attention to the incidents of Srijana Budhamagar and Inisha Bik and said that effective initiatives are needed to prevent violence against women.

Provincial Assembly member Narmaya Dhakal expressed the view that the government should not delay payment for the construction of the Lumbini Provincial Hospital building. Provincial Assembly member Lokakumari Bishwakarma said that violence against women is increasing and stressed on reducing the incidents through policy reforms. She also urged farmers to solve the problem of fertilizer and seed shortage.

Provincial Assembly member Basanti Neupane questioned the working style of the federal government and said that concrete initiatives should be taken to ensure good governance, social justice and peace.

In the meeting, Minister for Forest and Environment Devkaran Prasad Kalwar presented a proposal to hold a principled discussion on the ‘Bill to amend the Provincial Forest Act, 2078 BS’. Participating in the discussion on the proposal, member Arjun Kumar KC expressed the view that the forest sector should be made more systematic as it is an important source of employment generation.

Minister Kalwar answered the questions raised in the discussion. The upcoming eighth meeting of the Provincial Assembly is scheduled to be held on Wednesday.
