The elected member of the House of Representatives from Kapilvastu has submitted the district's tourism development plan to Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
The Prime Minister and the members of the House of Representatives of Lumbini Province had a debate on programs, infrastructure development, tourism, agriculture, health, education, good governance and social issues that can be implemented within the fiscal year 082/83 in Kathmandu on Monday. During that, the lawmakers presented the problems, possibilities and plans of their respective constituencies.
The discussion focused more on the tourism development of Kapilvastu, which has abundant tourism development potential. Bikram Singh Thapa, elected member of the House of Representatives from Kapilvastu-2, had submitted a 12-page concept paper. He said that he had suggested that Tilaurakot, the birthplace of peace, could be developed as a smart heritage city. MP Thapa has also urged the government to take the process forward again to make Tilaurakot, where Lord Gautam Buddha spent his 29 years of youth, a world heritage site.
He has suggested establishing the Tilaurakot Development Council for the development of tourism in Kapilvastu. He said that he has also suggested establishing an international study center for Buddhist philosophy and archaeology, which would show the events from Buddha's childhood to his departure through digital technology without any language barrier. He has proposed creating employment and business opportunities through heritage tourism. During the discussion, everyone's attention was drawn to MP Thapa's suggestion. His suggestion was more focused in the discussion.
'We have suggested strengthening road connectivity between the places where historical and archaeological sites are located and the Gautam Buddha International Airport and creating a digital museum that gives a glimpse of Kapilvastu,' he said. MP Thapa has also suggested restructuring the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority as its role in governance reforms is not seen to be effective. Similarly, he has suggested controlling the Banganga River, ensuring easy supply of fertilizers, and managing the landless and squatters.
MP Thapa said that he had gathered the basis for Kapilvastu's tourism development after discussing with experts and stakeholders and drew the attention of Prime Minister Balendra Shah. Kapilvastu-3 MP Abhishek Pratap Shah said that he was excited that Prime Minister Shah was interested in and informed about Kapilvastu, which has the potential to attract tourists from all over the world. 'Overall, the discussion was good,' he said, 'good hopes have been raised for the development of Kapilvastu.' He said that he had also suggested the establishment of a sports university in the district, the proper use of the two holding centers built in the district, and the upgrading of Shivraj Hospital.
