Targeting the endangered local food, the Hotel and Restaurant Business Organization Rupandehi is going to organize a local food festival in Bhairahawa on the eve of the New Year 2083. This is the fifth series of
street food festivals. It was informed at a press conference in Bhairahawa that the fifth Siddhartha Local Food Festival will be held on Chaitra 30 at Rangshala Road in Bhairahawa. Rajesh Motra, the president of the
organization, said that the local food festival was organized with the aim of preserving the local food dishes of various communities that are endangered and introducing the local food among domestic and foreign tourists. Various food dishes of Tharu, Magar, Newar, Gurung and Madhesi communities will be available at the
festival. Along with traditional food, food stalls from various star hotels in Bhairahawa and the surrounding areas will also be present at the festival.
‘Since traditional food dishes based on different castes and communities are on the verge of extinction, first priority has been given to traditional food stalls at the festival,’ said Motra. ‘All types of food available at the festival will be available at concessional rates with special discounts.’
According to the organizers, the festival is expected to attract 25 to 30 thousand participants, both Indian and domestic, and generate a turnover of more than Rs 10 million. The festival, which will have 80 food stalls, will also have cultural programs with national and local artists.
