The new administrative building of Siddharthnagar Municipality was inaugurated on Monday. Municipality Mayor Istiyaq Ahmed Khan and Deputy Mayor Uma Adhikari inaugurated the building by unveiling the inscription on the building.

Janak Thapa, Chief Administrative Officer of the Municipality, said that although services were started from the new building on November 24, the inauguration was delayed due to elections and other reasons. According to him, a construction agreement was signed with Sky Ramsagar JV on June 24, 2078. As per the agreement, the construction was to be completed in October 2080. He said that the construction of the building was completed on October 3, 2082 as the work was not completed on the scheduled date.

According to him, Rs 239.269 crore has been spent on the construction of the building spread over an area of four kaththas. The municipality building has underground parking, 26 rooms, two lifts, a program hall and other facilities. ‘The interior design work is still pending,’ said Thapa, ‘we are in discussions on how to provide efficient service from the new building.’ He said that the office building will be made more convenient to provide services without any inconvenience to the service recipients.’

Former mayor of Siddharthanagar Hari Adhikari expressed happiness over the inauguration of the building, the foundation stone of which was laid during his time. He said that since the municipality is already equipped with infrastructure, citizens should come to the office and express their views instead of complaining on social media. He said that local residents should also play a positive role in improving the municipality’s services and making the service flow effective. He requested the service recipients not to just complain.

Deputy mayor of the municipality Adhikari said that the municipality has been moving forward successfully so far with the contribution and support of the locals. ‘However, while demanding rights, one should also take care of one’s duties,’ she said, ‘citizens have a big role to play in making the municipality complaint-free.’

Mayor Khan stated that the municipality is working to solve the problems of the locals and make the city clean and tidy, urging local residents and stakeholders for cooperation. He said that modern infrastructure is also necessary to provide effective services to the citizens. ‘Now our focus will be on providing effective services to the citizens together with the employees and public representatives,’ he said, ‘Services will be provided using technology from the new building.’
