The Rolpa police have arrested a fugitive accused who was convicted in a hashish case after 23 years. According to the District Police Office, the Rolpa police have arrested an 81-year-old man who was absconding after being convicted.

According to the police, the arrested person is Kul Bahadur Gharti Magar, 81, a resident of Thapal Kharka, Thawang Rural Municipality-4, Rolpa. The Kapilvastu District Court had sentenced Gharti Magar to 4 years in prison and a fine of Rs 25,000 on 18 Magh 2059 in a drug (hashish) case. He had been absconding even after the court's verdict. 

The police found him hiding in his house almost two and a half decades after the incident. Based on information, a special team deployed from the District Police Office, Rolpa, took him under control at around 9:40 pm on Sunday. 

Police Inspector and Information Officer of the District Police Office, Rolpa, Sunil Thapa Nepali said that Gharti Magar was arrested and handed over to the Rolpa District Court on Monday. 

'As per the court order, he has been sent to the prison office in Rolpa to serve his sentence and pay the fine,' said Information Officer Nepali. Rolpa DSP Birendra Bir Bishwakarma said that the police have achieved success in this incident as part of the campaign to arrest defendants who have been outside the court of justice for a long time.
