Lumbini Cultural Municipality of Rupandehi has used a bulldozer to widen the roads in its area. The municipality has stated that it had to use a bulldozer after repeated notices were published to clear the road area.
The last notice was published 4 days ago to remove encroached structures on the right and left sides of the road and to clear the lanes. The notice signed by Acting Mayor Kalpana Harijan states that since the local government is responsible for protecting community and public property as per Section 97 of the Local Government Operation Act 2074, it has been asked to clear the roads or lanes within Wards 1 to 13 of the municipality.
It is mentioned that action will be taken as per the prevailing law if the lanes are not cleared within the specified time limit. Acting Mayor Harijan said that the structures had to be removed by using a bulldozer after repeated notices were issued. She said that such structures have caused inconvenience to passersby and drivers and have affected the beauty of the city. ‘On the one hand, the objective was to remove road obstructions within the municipality,’ she said, ‘on the other hand, the objective is also to reduce accidents in the municipality area.’
According to her, on Thursday, structures on the road from Kevatalia to Ardauli in Ward No. 2 were removed. In the process, houses, huts and encroached structures on the road were removed. ‘Tourists from all over the world come to the Lumbini Cultural Municipality,’ she said, ‘that is why we had to use a dozer to make the city clean and free of obstructions.’
